Hi I'm Gavin!
Here's just a little bit about my story...
I'm a Computer Science student at the University of Colorado in Denver.
I first began experimenting with coding when I was 8 years old when my dad
bought me MicroWorlds for our old Mac.
I started by programming little animations that would play out across the screen.
When I was 10 began making little games in MicroWorlds pushing the engine
as far to it's limits as I could. Eventually I outgrew MicroWorlds and began looking
for more powerful alternatives. I started with C++ but it was too much for me at
the time, so after an exhaustive amount of research, I landed on Gamemaker
where I continued to program games and learn about object-oriented programming.
I attended Front Range Community College in Westminster, CO for two years
where I took my first programming course and had a formal introduction to
programming, Java, and C++. I then took a couple years off from school to work in
retail, but I continued programming game projects in my spare time. While working
for Cricket Wireless I noticed a need for a simple way for sales representatives to
show customers what their rate plans would come out to be each month. I quickly
created a prototype app for sales representative's Android devices with a clean and
easy to use interface. I showed it to my manager and she liked it enough to show it
to the district manager who then got approval for every corporate Cricket store in
the Denver market to use the application.
I decided my itch for software engineering was too strong to remain in
retail, so I enrolled in a Computer Science degree at the University of Colorado
Denver in 2015. I have maintained a high GPA and have thrived in my programming
classes ever since. I'm expecting to graduate in the Fall of 2019 with a B.S. in
Computer Science with a minor in Mathematics.
